Acupuncture is a form of alternative medicine that utilizes thin, flexible needles that are inserted into specific points on the body that are designed to activate the body’s natural healing mechanisms in order to balance a person’s Qi (bodily energy).
At first glance, this might seem strange, but the benefits of acupuncture and oriental medicine date back thousands of years.
The needles placed throughout the body help release “blockages” that may be hindering your body’s natural healing process and may be the cause of some of your symptoms. While you may think poking needles across your body is painful, acupuncture is actually a painless and enjoyable process that has provided tremendous health benefits to millions of people across the globe.
While chiropractic care and oriental medicine stem from completely different parts of the world they do share some similarities. Acupuncture relies on “acupuncture points” throughout the body and each point is believed to be connected to a particular part of the body.
The same applies to chiropractic and the spine. Each vertebra correlates to a particular part of the body and chiropractors are trained to identify symptoms and correlate it to a particular point of the spinal cord to see if there are any subluxations present.
Acupuncture has also been shown to help reduce inflammation and pain, which are common symptoms of a patient undergoing chiropractic care for the first time. So if you’re receiving chiropractic care and are considering adding acupuncture to your regimen, please let us know and we’ll set you up with Nancy.
